Aztecs Baseball Earn Sweep Against Utah State-Eastern

The Pima Community College baseball team (4-0) dominated for the second straight day as the Aztecs defeated Utah State University-Eastern in another two games on Saturday at the West Campus field.

The Aztecs outscored the Golden Eagles 48-5 in the four games played on Friday and Saturday.

Freshman pitcher Trevelle Hill (1-0) threw a complete-game shutout as he gave up three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks on 76 pitches.

The offense scored all five runs in the 3rd inning. Sophomore David Oropeza (Nogales HS) scored the first run of the inning after a bases-loaded walk by freshman Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS). Sophomore Ivan Estrella (Tucson Magnet HS) and freshman Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) scored on passed balls. Sophomore Hunter Green (Sahuaro HS) hit an RBI single to plate Ramirez. Green scored on freshman Myles Moran's RBI double.

Pima CC Aztecs 18, Utah State University-Eastern Golden Eagles 3 (7 innings)

The Aztecs took control with six runs in the 3rd inning and five runs in the 6th to pull away and earn their third mercy-rule win in the first four games. Ramirez got the Aztecs started with a three-run RBI double in the 1st inning. Felix hit a three-run triple in the 3rd inning while sophomore Al Cruz (Nogales HS) hit a two-run homer in the 5th inning. Sophomore Ryan Ramsower (Salpointe Catholic HS) helped close it out with his two-run RBI double in the 6th.

Ramirez went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Ramsower finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs, three runs scored and two walks. Felix went 1 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored and Cruz was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Freshman Andres Hackman (Empire HS) started the game and picked up the win (1-0) after he pitched three innings giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits with six strikeouts and two walks on 58 pitches.

The Aztecs will host a doubleheader against El Paso Community College on Friday at the West Campus. The games will be at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
