Carrillo and Ramsower Help Aztecs Baseball Earn Split at Glendale CC

The Pima Community College baseball team (16-7, 7-7 in ACCAC) responded with a big rally in the second game as the Aztecs earned a split on Saturday at Glendale Community College (9-12, 7-7).

Sophomore Ryan Ramsower (Salpointe Catholic HS) took over in the second game as the Aztecs drew 12 walks for the game.

Game 1: Glendale CC Gauchos 7, Pima CC Aztecs 3 (7 innings)

The Aztecs couldn't put together consistent offense for the first five innings as the Gauchos took a 6-0 lead after the fifth.

The Aztecs had two hits in the first five innings but scored three runs in the sixth. Sophomore David Oropeza (Nogales HS) scored on a late throw to home plate and freshman Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) scored on a throwing error to make it 6-2. Sophomore Marcus Catalano (Salpointe Catholic HS) hit an RBI single to plate Ramsower.

Felix was 2-for-3 with a run scored while freshman Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS) finished 2-for-2. Catalano and Oropeza each went 1-for-3.

Freshman Miguel Figueroa (Tucson Magnet HS) took the loss (1-3) as he pitched five innings giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 13, Glendale CC Gauchos 3 (9 innings)

The Aztecs were tied with the Gauchos at 3-3 before the top of the ninth but they put an exclamation point on the win with a 10-run inning. Ramsower hit an RBI single to give Pima the lead for good at 4-3 and later hit a two-run RBI single in the inning. Freshman Oscar Larranaga (Sunnyside HS) also hit an RBI single in the inning while sophomore Ivan Estrella (Tucson Magnet HS) and Felix drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded.

Ramsower was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored while Estrella went 0-for-1 with four walks, two RBIs and three runs scored. Felix finished 1-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Larranaga was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore Xander Carrillo (Tucson Magnet HS) pitched three shutout innings in relief to pick up the win (2-0). He gave up one hit with four strikeouts. Daniel Tolano started and threw six innings giving up three runs (three earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs will play at GateWay Community College in Phoenix on Tuesday in an ACCAC doubleheader. The games will be at noon and 2:30 p.m.
