Ramirez Has Four RBIs as Baseball Splits Against Yavapai College

The Pima Community College baseball team (18-9, 9-9 in ACCAC) split an ACCAC conference doubleheader against Yavapai College (17-10, 8-3) on Saturday at the West Campus.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 6, Yavapai College Roughriders 5 (7 innings)

The Aztecs took a 4-1 advantage into the ninth inning but Yavapai scored five runs to take 5-4 lead. The Aztecs scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to win it.

Freshman Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS) finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs while sophomore Ryan Ramsower (Salpointe Catholic HS) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Freshman Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and sophomore Ivan Estrella (Tucson Magnet HS) went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore Daniel Tolano (Cholla HS) picked up the win and improved to 4-1 on the season. He pitched a complete-game giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits with six strikeouts.

Game 2: Yavapai College Roughriders 8, Pima CC Aztecs 4

The Aztecs' rally was cut short in the second game as they scored one run in the final seven innings after taking a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second.

Ramirez finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored while sophomore Hunter Green (Sahuaro HS) was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks. Sophomore David Oropeza (Nogales HS) went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Ramsower was 2-for-4.

Freshman Miguel Figueroa (Tucson Magnet HS) took the loss (1-5) as he pitched four and two-third innings giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

The Aztecs will host a single game on Tuesday against Cochise College. It was be a non-conference game that starts at 2:00 p.m. at the West Campus.
