Larranaga scores three runs as Aztecs baseball opens season with a win

The Pima Community College baseball team (1-0) opened the 2017 season on Saturday at the West Campus.

The Aztecs defeated the University of Arizona Club Team 7-3 in a single game as they took an early lead in the first inning.

Sophomore Oscar Larranaga (Sunnyside HS) singled to start it off. He scored when fellow sophomore Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) hit an RBI single. Felix scored on an error to make it 2-0.

Freshman Logan Klunder hit a two-run RBI single to score sophomore Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS) and freshman Jared Kromminga (Empire HS) to make it 4-0.

Larranaga scored a run in the fourth inning to make it 5-1 and once more on sophomore Erick Migueles' (Canyon del Oro HS) RBI single in the sixth inning to make it 6-3. Larranaga finished 3 for 5 with three runs scored. Klunder was 1 for 4 with two RBIs and Felix finished 1 for 3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk.

Sophomore Trevelle Hill (Tucson HS) picked up the win (1-0) as he started the game and threw three innings giving up one hit with three strikeouts. Freshman Jose Contreras (Tucson HS) pitched three innings giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Freshman Troy Gutbub (Catalina Foothills HS) threw the final three innings giving up one hit with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs will be right back at the West Campus on Sunday hosting a doubleheader against the UA Club Team. The first game starts at 11:00 a.m.
