Aztecs baseball scores 28 runs in sweep against the UofA Club Team

The Pima Community College baseball team (3-0) earned two mercy-rule victories on Sunday at the West Campus field over the University of Arizona Club Team.

Sophomore Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) finished the day 5 for 6 with four RBIs and four runs scored. Freshman Martin Garcia (Tucson HS) went 5 for 7 with two RBIs and four runs scored and sophomore Miguel Figueroa (Tucson HS) was also 5 for 7 with four runs scored. Sophomores Andres Hackman (Empire HS) and Taylor Ferdinand picked up the wins on the mound.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 16, UA Club Team 1 (7 innings): The Aztecs' offense scored eight runs in the second inning to take control.

Sophomore Erick Migueles (Canyon del Oro HS) cleared the bases with a three-run RBI double while Garcia hit a two-run RBI double. Freshman Logan Klunder and Felix each added RBI singles in the inning.

Migueles finished 1 for 3 with four RBIs and a run scored while Felix went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Garcia was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored and freshman Kyle Rivera (Tucson HS) went 1 for 1 with two RBIs.

Figueroa went 3 for 4 with three runs scored and pitched the final two innings in relief giving up no hits with five strikeouts.

Hackman (Empire HS) started and pitched three innings as he picked up the win (1-0). He didn't give up a hit and had one walk. Freshman Austin Treadwell pitched two innings giving up one run on one hit with two strikeouts.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 12, UA Club Team 2 (7 innings): The Aztecs scored two runs in four straight innings and capped it off with four runs in the sixth inning to seal it.

Rivera finished the game 1 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored while Felix went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Klunder was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and Garcia finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Ferdinand picked up the win (1-0) as he pitched three innings giving up one hit with three strikeouts and two walks. Sophomore Ernesto Romero (Salpointe Catholic HS) threw two innings giving up no hits with three strikeouts. Freshman Isaac Lopez (Nogales HS) finished the game throwing the final two innings giving up two runs (one earned) with two strikeouts and one walk.

The Aztecs will host a non-conference doubleheader against El Paso Community College on Saturday at the West Campus. The first game begins at 11:00 a.m.
