Aztecs baseball earn another split vs. El Paso CC

The Pima Community College baseball team (5-2) struggled on offense but found a way to earn a split for the second straight day against El Paso Community College (3-7).

Game 1: El Paso CC Tejanos 3, Pima CC Aztecs 0: The Aztecs committed four errors on defense and managed just four hits on offense. The Tejanos scored two in the first inning and one run in the second.

Sophomore Shawn Bracamontes (Sunnyside HS) finished 3 for 3 in the game and sophomore Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) went 1 for 3. The Aztecs left seven runners on base.

Sophomore Taylor Ferdinand started the game and took the loss (1-1) as he pitched four innings giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Freshman Isaac Lopez (Nogales HS) pitched two innings giving up one hit with one strikeout while freshman Gage O'Brien (Catalina Foothills HS) pitched the seventh inning and had two strikeouts.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 5, El Paso CC Tejanos 0: Sophomore Miguel Figueroa (Tucson HS) pitched six and two-third innings of shutout ball as he picked up the win (1-0). He gave up 10 hits with six strikeouts and three walks on 81 pitches. Fellow sophomore Ernesto Romero (Salpointe Catholic HS) closed it out going the final two and one-third innings giving up one hit with two strikeouts.

The Aztecs got on the board in the first inning with two runs. Sophomore Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS) hit an RBI double and freshman Austin Treadwell contributed with an RBI single. Felix hit an RBI single in the second inning and freshman Marcus Mendez (Desert View HS) added an RBI single in the third inning to make it 4-0. Bracamontes had a sacrifice-fly RBI to score Felix in the sixth.

Ramirez went 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored. Freshman Martin Garcia (Tucson HS) was 3 for 4 with a run scored while sophomore Erick Migueles (Canyon del Oro HS) finished 3 for 5 with a run scored. Mendez went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a walk.

The Aztecs open ACCAC conference play on Saturday when they host Scottsdale Community College at the West Campus field. The games will be at noon and 2:30 p.m.
