Aztecs baseball drops doubleheader vs. Phoenix College at Kino Stadium

The Pima Community College baseball team (7-7, 2-5 in ACCAC) played its first regular season ACCAC conference doubleheader at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday against Phoenix College (11-5, 5-3).

The Aztecs struggled to put together consist offense but showed patience at the plate drawing nine walks.

Game 1: Phoenix College Bears 1, Pima CC Aztecs 0: Sophomore Miguel Figueroa (Tucson HS) threw a gem but the offense managed just two hits.

Freshman Logan Klunder finished the game 1 for 3 with a single in the second inning and sophomore Shawn Bracamontes (Sunnyside HS) was 1 for 1 with a single in the third inning. He also drew a walk in the game.

Figueroa took the loss (1-1) as he pitched six and one-third innings giving up one run (one earned) on six hits with seven strikeouts and four walks. Freshman Isaac Lopez (Nogales HS) threw the final two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout.

Game 2: Phoenix College Bears 8, Pima CC Aztecs 2: The Aztecs struck first but the Bears scored four runs in the fourth inning and two in the eighth to help seal it.

Sophomore Erick Migueles (Canyon del Oro HS) hit a solo home run to right field to put Pima up 1-0. The Aztecs fell behind 2-1 in the third but tied it after sophomore Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS) drew a bases loaded walk. Klunder hit into a double-play to end the threat.

Migueles finished 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored while Ramirez was 1 for 4 with an RBI. Freshman Martin Garcia (Tucson HS) was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Bracamontes was 0 for 2 with two walks as Pima finished the game with five base-on-balls.

Sophomore Taylor Ferdinand started and took the loss (1-2) as he went three and two-third innings giving up five runs (two earned) on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Sophomore Ernesto Romero (Salpointe Catholic HS) pitched three and one-third innings in relief giving up one run (one earned) on two hits with two strikeouts.

The Aztecs will be on the road for an ACCAC conference doubleheader on Saturday at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix. The games will be at 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
