Ramirez and Garcia knock in two runs as Aztecs baseball top Madison College

The Pima Community College baseball team (14-16) capped off its week with a close victory on Friday at the West Campus.

The Aztecs defeated Madison Area Technical College 4-2 in a single non-conference game.

The Wolfpack tied the game in the sixth inning with two runs but the Aztecs responded in the bottom half of the inning. Sophomore Erick Migueles (Canyon del Oro HS) hit a triple and sophomore Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS) followed with an RBI single to put the Aztecs ahead for good.

Ramirez added insurance in the eighth inning when he hit an RBI double to score sophomore Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS), who hit a lead-off double.

The Aztecs got on the board and broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when freshman Martin Garcia (Tucson HS) hit a two-run RBI single scoring Ramirez and freshman Logan Klunder. They hit back-to-back singles to begin the inning.

Ramirez finished the game 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored while Garcia went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a walk. Migueles was 2 for 5 with a run scored and a triple while Klunder finished 1 for 3 with a run scored and two walks. The Aztecs finished the game with eight walks.

Freshman Jose Contreras (Tucson HS) picked up the win (3-1) in a relief appearance. He pitched two innings giving up two runs (two earned) on three hits with one strikeout and one walk. Sophomore Ernesto Romero (Salpointe Catholic HS) struck out the side to end the game and earned his second save of the season. He threw two innings giving up one hit with four strikeouts.

Sophomore Trevelle Hill (Tucson HS) started the game and pitched five shutout innings giving up three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Scottsdale Community College. First pitch of the doubleheader starts at noon.
