Migueles blasts two homers but Aztecs baseball is swept at Arizona Western College

The Pima Community College baseball team (17-25, 8-22 in ACCAC) dropped its sixth straight game on Saturday as they got swept at Arizona Western College (32-11, 14-9) on Saturday in Yuma.

Sophomores Erick Migueles (Canyon del Oro HS) hit two home runs on the day and fellow sophomore Shawn Bracamontes (Sunnyside HS) also went yard as they each drove in three runs for the Aztecs.

Game 1: Arizona Western College Matadors 11, Pima CC Aztecs 5 (7 innings): The Aztecs were forced to play catch up after the Matadors scored six runs in the first inning.

Migueles hit a leadoff homer in the third inning to cut the deficit to 6-2. In the fifth inning, Bracamontes hit a two-run home run which also scored sophomore Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS), who had doubled earlier in the inning. The Aztecs trailed 11-4 at that point.

Bracamontes went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored while Migueles was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Ramirez finished 2 for 4 with a run scored. Freshman Marcus Mendez (Desert View HS) hit an RBI single in the first inning and scored on a wild pitch in the sixth. He was 2 for 3 for the game.

Sophomore Trevelle Hill (Tucson HS) took the loss (2-6) as he pitched three innings giving up seven runs (four earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2: Arizona Western College Matadors 9, Pima CC Aztecs 4: The Aztecs took an early lead after the first inning but the Matadors rallied off six unanswered runs.

Migueles hit his second home run of the day and put the Aztecs on the board in the second inning with a two-run blast to score sophomore Oscar Larranaga (Sunnyside HS), who led off the game with a single. Bracamontes capped off the inning with a sacrifice-fly RBI to make it 3-0.

The Matadors scored a run in the bottom half of the first but scored two runs in each the third and fourth innings to take a 5-3 lead.

The Aztecs cut the deficit to 6-4 after Larranaga's RBI single in the seventh inning but Arizona Western scored three runs in the eighth.

Migueles finished the game 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Bracamontes finished 2 for 3 with an RBI while Larranaga was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Freshman Gage O'Brien (Catalina Foothills HS) took the loss (1-3) after he started and threw four innings giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs play at Mesa Community College next Saturday in an ACCAC conference doubleheader. The games will be at 12:00 and 2:30 p.m.
