Aztecs baseball drop two games vs. Paradise Valley CC

The Pima Community College baseball team (18-28, 9-25 in ACCAC) closed out its home schedule for the 2017 season on Tuesday at the West Campus field.

The Aztecs were swept by Paradise Valley Community College (29-21, 18-16). They close out the season with three straight road conference doubleheaders.

Game 1: Paradise Valley CC Pumas 6, Pima CC Aztecs 3 (7 innings): The Aztecs tied the game in the bottom of the first inning but the Pumas scored two runs in each the third and fourth inning.

Sophomore Oscar Larranaga (Sunnyside HS) scored on a throw to second base to tie it in the first inning. Sophomore Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS), who came in to pinch run for sophomore Shawn Bracamontes, scored on an error.

Freshman Austin Treadwell hit a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but the rally was halted from there. The Aztecs finished the game with six hits.

Larranaga went 1 for 4 with a run scored while Treadwell finished 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore Miguel Figueroa (Tucson HS) took the loss (2-7) as he pitched two and one-third innings giving up three runs (three earned) on five hits with one strikeout and one walk.

Game 2: Paradise Valley CC Pumas 7, Pima CC Aztecs 3 (9 innings): The Aztecs took an early lead in the second inning and tacked on a run in the third but managed just two hits after that.

Freshman Jesus Solis (Nogales HS) hit an RBI single to score sophomore Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS) to tie the game at 1-1 in the second inning and freshman Kyle Rivera (Tucson HS) hit a groundout to give Pima the lead.

Ramirez hit a two-out RBI single to score sophomore Erick Migueles (Canyon del Oro HS) to make it 3-1 in the third inning.

The Pumas took the lead back for good with three runs in the fourth inning and added insurances runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings.

Ramirez finished the game 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Solis went 1 for 4 with an RBI while Rivera was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Bracamontes was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

Sophomore Andres Hackman (Empire HS) took the loss (2-1) as he pitched six innings giving up five runs (two earned) on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

The Aztecs will play at Phoenix College on Saturday in an ACCAC conference doubleheader. The games will be at noon and 2:30 p.m.
