Alday reaches 500 wins as Aztecs baseball sweeps UofA Club

The Pima Community College baseball team (5-1) earned a non-conference sweep on Tuesday at the West Campus Baseball Field and helped head coach Rich Alday reach a milestone.

The Aztecs earned a sweep over the University of Arizona Club team. After the first win, coach Alday had earned his 500th career victory at Pima.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 6, University of Arizona Club Wildcats 1 (7 innings): The Aztecs scored six runs in the third inning and the pitching staff did the rest.

Freshman Michael Wong and sophomore Juan Durazo (Salpointe Catholic HS) hit back-to-back RBI triples and a couple at-bats later, freshmen Javier Nava and Matthew Hackman (Canyon del Oro HS) hit back-to-back RBI singles.

Durazo and Wong each finished 1 for 2 with an RBI, a run scored and a triple. Nava was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Freshman Ryon Craig (Cienega HS) picked up the win (2-0) after he pitched four innings giving up no runs on three hits with one strikeout and one walk.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 15, University of Arizona Club Wildcats 5 (6 innings): The offense poured it on in the second game to earn the mercy-rule win.

Sophomore Martin Garcia (Tucson HS) hit a three-run double in the first inning and had two sacrifice-fly RBIs as he finished 1 for 2 with five RBIs. Freshman Enrique Porchas (Kofa HS) hit his first career home run in the third inning to make it 10-5. He finished the game 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Sophomore Logan Klunder was part of Pima's five-run 2nd inning as he hit a two-run RBI double to make it 7-4. He finished 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

Sophomore Christian Pearcy (Ironwood Ridge HS) picked up the win in relief (1-0). He threw one and two-third innings with three strikeouts.
