Udall and Ferreira lead Aztecs baseball in the second game to split at Eastern Arizona College

The Pima Community College baseball team (15-6-1, 6-3-1 in ACCAC) took to the road on Saturday as it played an ACCAC Division I doubleheader at Eastern Arizona College (6-12, 1-7).
The Gila Monsters picked up their first conference but the Aztecs responded with a run rule victory in the second game.

  • Game 1: Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 10, Pima CC Aztecs 4: The Gila Monsters scored six runs in the 3rd inning and four unanswered.
    The Aztecs took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning when sophomore Enrique Porchas (Kofa HS) hit a two-run RBI double to score freshman Cole Cummings and sophomore Rafael Padilla (Nogales HS).
    The Aztecs tacked on a run to make it 3-0 in top half of the 3rd inning when sophomore Javier Nava grounded out but plated Padilla.
    Porchas went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a walk. Nava finished 1 for 4 with an RBI and Cummings was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.
    Freshman Juan Pablo Ruedaflores (Flowing Wells HS) took the loss (1-1) in a relief appearance as he pitched two and two-third innings giving up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits with two walks.

  • Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 13, Eastern Arizona College Gila Monster 2 (7 innings): The Aztecs responded with a flurry of offense to earn the run rule victory.
    Sophomore Fabian Ferreira (Tucson HS) found his stroke with some timely hitting. He put the Aztecs on the board in the 2nd inning bringing in two runs on an RBI single. He hit another RBI single in the 3rd inning to make it 6-1 and came through with another two-run RBI hit in the 6th.
    Sophomore Phillip Sikes hit a two-run home run in the 4th inning to make it 9-1. Sophomore Jacob Jacome contributed with an RBI single in the 3rd inning and an RBI triple in the 6th.
    Ferreira went 3 for 4 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Sikes was 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs while Jacome finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Freshman Karl Koerper was 1 for 2 with an RBI and three runs scored and sophomore Matthew Hackman (Empire HS) was 2 for 4 with two runs.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field on Tuesday when they host an ACCAC Division I doubleheader against Central Arizona College. First pitch will be at noon.
