Aztecs baseball struggles on offense, gets swept by Central Arizona College

The Pima Community College baseball team's (15-8, 6-5 in ACCAC) bats were silenced on Tuesday in its ACCAC Division I doubleheader against Central Arizona College (15-8, 6-4).
The Aztecs managed two runs on five hits for the day. Sophomores Rafael Padilla (Nogales HS) and Enrique Porchas (Kofa HS) each had two hits on the day.

  • Game 1: Central Arizona College Vaqueros 8, Pima CC Aztecs 0: The Aztecs were held to two hits as the Vaqueros took control in the mid and late innings.
    Padilla and Enrique Porchas each had a hit in the 4th inning. Padilla was 1 for 3 and Porchas was 1 for 2 for the game. Freshman Cole Cummings drew a walk in the 1st inning.
    Sophomore Adam Moraga (Sunnyside HS) suffered his first loss of the season (3-1) as he pitched five and one-third innings giving up six runs (three earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

  • Game 2: Central Arizona College Vaqueros 14, Pima CC Aztecs 2: The Aztecs surrendered six runs in the 6th and four runs in the 9th.
    The Aztecs struck first when freshman Karl Koerper hit an RBI single to score sophomore Phillip Sikes, who reached on an error earlier in the inning. Padilla hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-2 in the 3rd inning scoring freshman Cole Cummings, who was hit by a pitch in an earlier at-bat.
    Padilla was 1 for 4 with an RBI while Koerper finished 1 for 2 with an RBI and a walk. Porchas was 1 for 3 in the game.
    Sophomore Conner Nantkes took the loss (2-3) after he threw five innings giving up seven runs (seven earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and five walks.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Baseball Field on Saturday when they host an ACCAC Division I doubleheader against Yavapai College. First pitch is at noon.
