Aztecs baseball dominates No. 6 ranked Western Oklahoma State

The Pima Community College baseball team (18-9) clicked on all cylinders on Saturday in its doubleheader sweep against No. 6 ranked Western Oklahoma State College (Division II) (19-4).
The Aztecs outscored the Pioneers 21-2 on the day. Sophomore Rafael Padilla (Nogales HS) went 4 for 5 with six RBIs and three runs scored while fellow sophomore Phillip Sikes finished 4 for 5 with three RBIs, four runs scored and two walks. Pima starting pitchers Austin Bryan (Sahuarita HS) and Hayden Udall (Campo Verde HS) had solid outings once again.

  • Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 11, (6) Western Oklahoma State Pioneers 1 (5 innings): Padilla hit a two-run RBI single in the 5th to end the game giving the Aztecs a run rule victory. Freshman Cole Cummings hit a two-run RBI triple earlier in the inning to make it 9-1.
    Padilla made an impact earlier in the game when he hit a two-run RBI single in the 1st to put the Aztecs on the scoreboard.
    Sophomore Enrique Porchas (Kofa HS), along with freshmen Karl Koerper and Garett Lake had three straight RBI hits in the 3rd inning.
    Padilla went 3 for 3 with four RBIs and a run scored while Cummings was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Koerper hit a sacrifice-fly RBI in the 1st and was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Sikes went 1 for 2 with an RBI, a run scored and two walks.
    Bryan, a sophomore, improved to 6-0 on the season as he pitched all five innings giving up one run (one earned) on six hits with three strikeouts on 73 pitches.

  • Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 10, (6) Western Oklahoma State Pioneers 1: The Aztecs scored nine runs in the first four innings.
    Pima loaded the bases with no outs in the 4th as Sikes hit a sac-fly RBI and Padilla followed with another two-run RBI single to score Cummings and freshman Angel Ochoa (Canyon del Oro HS) to make it 8-1.
    The Aztecs started off fast in the 1st inning with three runs. Sikes hit an RBI single and Ochoa scored on a passed ball. Freshman Brian Romero (Canyon del Oro HS) reached on an error as Sikes scored to make it 3-0.
    Sikes finished 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs while Padilla went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Cummings was 1 for 3 with two runs as Ochoa finished 1 for 4 with two runs.
    Udall a sophomore, threw seven innings giving up one run (one earned) on eight hits with eight strikeouts on 95 pitches.
