Aguilar's walk-off and Bachelier's 4 RBIs help Aztecs baseball sweep Paradise Valley CC

The Pima Community College baseball team (3-0) earned a doubleheader sweep on Saturday against Paradise Valley Community College (0-3) at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field.
The Aztecs got another standout performance from freshman Marcel Bachelier (Nogales HS), who finished the day 3 for 7 with four RBIs. He went 6 for 11 with seven RBIs in the first three games.

  • Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 7, Paradise Valley CC Pumas 5 (8 innings): Sophomore Armando Aguilar gave the Aztecs two walkoff victories in two games after he hit a two-run RBI double scoring sophomore Angel Ochoa (Canyon del Oro HS) and sophomore Andre Greene (Rio Rico HS).
    The Aztecs trailed 5-1 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, freshman Jose Enriquez hit a two-run RBI single driving in freshman Zac Czerniawski and sophomore Alex Bustamante (Canyon del Oro HS). Bachelier followed with an RBI double plating freshman Alex Kelch (Tucson HS) to cut it to a 5-4 deficit.
    Bachelier wasn't finished as he hit the game-tying RBI single with one out in the 7th to score sophomore JJ Rollon (Skyline HS), who had singled to lead off the inning.
    Bachelier and Enriquez each finished the game 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Bustamante was a flawless 3 for 3 with two runs scored and a walk. Aguilar went 1 for 1 with two RBIs.
    Freshman pitcher Andrew Prieve picked up the win (1-0) in a relief appearance as he pitched the final three and one-third innings giving up one hit with three strikeouts and two walks. Sophomore Jimmy Gamboa started and threw four and two-thirds giving up five runs (one earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

  • Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 3, Paradise Valley CC Pumas 2 (7 innings):  Down 1-0, the Aztecs took the lead in the 4th inning. Bachelier tied the game with a ground out RBI that scored Kelch. Aguilar followed with a sacrifice-fly RBI that scored Enriquez to make it 2-1.
    Kelch drew a walk in the 6th and was driven in by Bachelier's RBI single to make it 3-1.
    Bachelier was 1 for 3 with two RBIs while Enriquez finished 1 for 2 with a run and a walk. Kelch was 0 for 1 but scored two runs and had two walks.
    Freshman John Dormanen (Ironwood Ridge HS) started the game and threw five quality innings giving up one run (one earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Sophomore Mason Millett (Boulder Creek HS) gave up a run in the 7th but held the Pumas off to earn the save. He pitched two innings giving up one run (none earned) on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field to play four games against Colorado Northwestern Community College. They'll play a doubleheader on Friday with the first game starting at 11:00 a.m.
