Hinojosa throws 3 TDs as Aztecs football roll

The Pima Community College football team (1-0) made a statement in its first regular season game of the season on Friday against Tucson Preparatory Academy.

The Aztecs scored 67 first half points and defeated Tucson Prep 83-2.Sophomore running back Deontay Townsend (Mountain Pointe HS) put the Aztecs on the board with a 13-yard touchdown run. He scored again on a 5-yard run early in the second quarter to make it 32-0. He finished the game with 82 yards, all in the first half.

Antonio Hinojosa (Mountain Pointe HS), a red-shirt freshman, started the game at quarterback and threw for 132 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. He found Timmy Hernandez (Mountain Pointe HS) for a 19-yard score with 4:42 left in the first quarter to make it 16-0. He threw another first quarter touchdown pass this time to Robby Wilson (Salpointe Catholic HS), for 20-yards. He finally connected with Daniel Goodman (Desert View HS) for a 7-yard score in the second quarter.

Dominque Drake (Buena), Sirgeo Hoffman and Zaviontay Stevenson each had a rushing touchdown. Landry Payne (Mountain Pointe HS) took a kickoff return 90 yards for the final score of the game.

The Aztecs will be back at the Kino North Stadium next Saturday, Aug. 29 as they begin WSFL conference play against Phoenix College. Game is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
