Aztecs Football Fall Against Arizona Western College

The Pima Community College football team (4-2) couldn't get into an offense rhythm in the second half in Saturday's game against Arizona Western College at Kino North Stadium.

The Aztecs had four turnovers and three punts in the second half as the Aztecs fell 20-10. They are tied for second place in the standings but Arizona Western (4-2) owns the tie-breaker.

Down 7-0 after the first quarter, the Aztecs scored on the first play of the second quarter when Nathan Farmer (Ironwood Ridge HS) hit a 21-yard field goal. Later, the Aztecs capitalized on three Arizona Western penalties as they scored on a nine-play drive. Sirgeo Hoffman ran it in from five-yards out to give Pima the 10-7 lead with 2:08 left in the half. Arizona Western tied the game at 10-10 on a 27-yard field goal to end the half.

The Aztecs had a punt miscue on its first possession of the third quarter and Arizona Western scored two plays later to put Pima down 17-10.

The Aztecs had two drives that started deep in Arizona Western territory that they couldn't take advantage of. They recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff which put them on the Arizona Western 25-yardline but sophomore quarterback Kian Homme threw an interception in the endzone. In the second half, the Aztecs started a drive on the Arizona Western 37-yardline after Darrell Clark had a 20-plus yard return. Homme threw his second interception in the redzone.

The Aztecs will look to get back on track after dropping their last two games at Scottsdale Community College next Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
