Payne and Moore Lead Ground Game as Aztecs Football Trounce Scottsdale

The Pima Community College football team (5-2) snapped a two-game skid on Saturday at Scottsdale Community College.

Sophomores Wesley Payne (Mountain Pointe HS) Donovan Moore (Tucson Magnet HS) were the difference makers on the ground as they each scored two rushing touchdowns in Pima's 45-17 win on Saturday.

The Aztecs forced Scottsdale to a three-and-out to begin the third quarter and matched 82 yards on their first possession. Payne scored on a 6-yard keeper play to make it 28-14. Scottsdale hit a field goal on their next possession but the Aztecs scored 17 unanswered points to seal it. Sophomore quarterback Kian Homme found fellow sophomore Eric Dedrick for the 17-yard passing score on Pima's next possession to make it 35-17. Payne scored his second rushing touchdown with 1:46 left in the third quarter from two-yards out to make it 42-17.

Moore scored two quarterback keeper touchdowns to help set the tone in the first half. His first score came on the first possession of the game as he marched the Aztecs down 87 yards and finished the drive with a 19-yard score. Paul Davis (Desert Edge HS) had a 10-yard interception return to quickly put the Aztecs up 14-0. Moore also had a six-yard run for the touchdown to begin the second quarter. Pima led 21-14 at halftime.

The Aztecs will host their final home game of the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 17 against Glendale Community College. The game will be at Tucson Magnet High School at 7:00 p.m.
