Aztecs Football Falter in Second Half in Loss at (8) Snow College

The Pima Community College football team (6-3, 5-3 in WSFL) played a tough first half and had the lead at the break but lost control in the second half.

The Aztecs surrendered 28 unanswered points in the third quarter in their 48-27 loss at No. 8 Snow College on Saturday for the WSFL conference regular season title. Pima's final seeding for the WSFL winner's bracket will be determined after the night games.

The Aztecs started the second half with a fumble that was returned for a touchdown, a punt and two interceptions. Snow College capitalized on all three Pima turnovers in the third quarter to take a 38-13 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Aztecs came back and cut into their lead as sophomore Kian Homme, who replaced starter Donovan Moore (Tucson Magnet HS) in the third quarter, threw a touchdown pass to freshman Timmy Hernandez (Mountain Pointe HS) for the 32-yard score. The Aztecs recovered the ensuing onside kick with 5:51 left in the game. Five plays later, sophomore Deontay Townsend scored on a 25-yard run to make it 38-27. Snow College scored a field goal and on an interception return for a touchdown to seal it.

The Aztecs took a 13-10 at halftime. With 1:25 left in the second quarter, Moore orchestrated a 75-yard drive that ended with a 30-yard touchdown pass to freshman Jeff Cotton (Mountain View HS). Freshman kicker Nathan Farmer (Ironwood Ridge HS) hit two field goals in the first half.
