Aztec Football Shows Off Firepower in Win vs. Phoenix College

The Pima Community College football team (3-4, 2-3 in WSFL) snapped a three-game slide on Saturday against Phoenix College at Kino North Stadium.

The Aztecs scored 48 points combined in the second and third quarters and went on to beat the Bears 69-27, handing Phoenix College (5-4, 2-3) its third straight loss.

The Aztecs produced 582 yards of total offense; 236 yards on the ground and 346 in the air.

Pima closed out the first half in a big way to put more pressure on the Bears. Freshman quarterback Justin Martin (Pueblo HS) had a pair of key runs and the drive ended with sophomore Isaiah Banks (Mountain Pointe HS) scoring his second touchdown of the day from two-yards out with 39 seconds left as part of a 28-point quarter for Pima. Banks scored his first rushing score earlier in the second quarter.

Freshman Christian Wilridge (Tombstone HS) was also a factor in the ground game. He rushed for 60 yards on eight carries with a 26-yard touchdown run as part of the second quarter barrage. Freshman Dominique Fenstermacher (Mountain Pointe HS) also contributed in the quarter when he scored on a 41-yard interception return. The Aztecs led 35-13 at halftime.

Martin was a factor in three touchdowns as he finished the game 15 for 27 with 309 yards passing with one touchdown. He also rushed for 47 yards on nine carries with two scores from 4 and 19-yards out.

Sophomore Jeff Cotton (Mountain View HS) had five catches for 140 yards and a touchdown reception in the third quarter.

The Aztecs will be on the road next Saturday when they play at Glendale Community College at 7:00 p.m.
