The Pima Community College football team closed out the 2017 season on Saturday at Mesa Community College.

The Aztecs fell to the Thunderbirds 49-17 after Mesa established dominance in the first quarter scoring on their first four drives of the games and outscoring the Aztecs 28-0 in the first quarter.

The Aztecs had three punts, two turnovers and two turnover-on-downs in the first half as they trailed 42-0 at halftime.

It was another tail of two halves as the Aztecs played stronger in the second half. They held the Thunderbirds to three straight punts to open the third quarter and got on the board when freshman KC Moore scored on an 11-yard keeper.

Sophomore Anthony Ries scored on a 9-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. Moore set up the score after he had a 38-yard run on the previous play.

Mesa was forced to punt on their next possession but sophomore Beau Griego (Florence HS) blocked it to put the Aztecs deep into Mesa's territory. Sophomore Coby Oswalt kicked a 39 yard field goal to end the drive.

The Aztecs outscored the Thunderbirds 17-7 for the second half.

The Aztecs finished the season at 2-9 overall and 0-7 in WSFL conference play.
