11 Aztecs football players selected to All-Conference and All-League teams

The Western State Football League and the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference released their standout teams on Tuesday.

The Pima football team had 11 players represented; six being named both All-League and All-Conference.

Sophomore defensive back Haki Woods was selected first team All-WSFL and first team All-ACCAC. He had 45 tackles (35 solo) with five pass break-ups.

Sophomore punter John Bowers was also selected first team All-WSFL and first team All-ACCAC. He had 59 punts on the season with a total of 2,654 yards (45 yards per punt). He put down 16 inside the 20-yardline.

Bowers and Woods were both nominated for NJCAA All-American honors.

Freshman wide receiver Larry Rembert was named first team All-WSFL and second team All-ACCAC. Rembert had 37 receptions for 728 yards and led the Aztecs with seven touchdowns.

Freshman Aaron Maddox was also named first team All-WSFL and second team All-ACCAC. He had 58 tackles with one interception and three pass break-ups on the season.

Defensive linemen Sam Moala and Tony Fair were both selected second team All-WSFL and second team All-ACCAC. Moala, a freshman had 62 tackles and led the Aztecs with 11 tackles-for-loss for a total of 46 yards. He also had 3.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and one pass break-up. Fair was second on the team with 98 tackles and had seven tackles-for-loss for 15 yards. He also had one sack for the season.

Sophomore center Soakimi Hufanga was named All-WSFL Honorable Mention.

The Aztecs had four players selected second team All-ACCAC conference. Sophomore linebacker Francisco Dicochea (Cienega HS) was named to the second team as he led the Aztecs with 102 tackles and also had seven tackles-for-loss for 24 yards and two forced fumbles.

Freshman defensive lineman Keith Brigham was named to the team as he finished third on the team with 79 tackles. He led the Aztecs with six sacks totaling 45 yards and had five tackles-for-loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Freshman wide receiver Ronson Young was selected second team All-ACCAC conference. He had 40 receptions for 467 yards with three touchdowns.

Sophomore linebacker Bryant Pirtle was also second team as he totaled 72 tackles. He had six tackles-for-loss for 21 yards and 3.5 sacks for 8 yards.

The Aztecs finished the season 2-9 overall.
