Moise and Kordsiemon post double-doubles in men's basketball win over Pascua Yaqui

The Pima Community College men's basketball team (5-2) found itself in an offensive battle on Saturday in the final day of the Tohono O'odham Community College Native American Classic.

The Aztecs defeated Pascua Yaqui 120-113 as they had to hold off a late surge to win it. The Aztecs led by as much as 21 points in the second half at 94-73 with less than 10 minutes left in the game. Pascua Yaqui used the three-ball to cut Pima's lead to 112-107 with less than three minutes left but sophomore Javon Peterson hit a running shot in the paint and freshman Ilunga Moise (Raymond S. Kellis HS) made an inside basket to put the Aztecs back up by nine points at 116-107.

The Aztecs fell behind early as Pascua Yaqui hit four 3-pointers in three minutes and scored on five straight possessions to take a 25-17 lead. The Aztecs took a 33-28 lead after going on an 11-0 run. The Aztecs led 59-47 at halftime.

The Aztecs opened up the second half on a 10-3 run to take a 69-50 lead but Pascua Yaqui responded with a 17-7 run of its own to cut Pima's lead to 76-67. The Aztecs responded with an 11-2 run to make it 87-69.

Sophomore Dakota Kordsiemon (Catalina Foothills HS) finished with a team-high 26 points and had 11 rebounds and two assists. Moise also posted a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds (six offensive). Freshman Alize Travis had 24 points, four rebounds and four assists while sophomore Zach Evans (Hamilton HS) finished with 21 points and five assists. Freshman Isaiah Murphy also scored in double figures with 19 points.

The Aztecs will open ACCAC conference play on Tuesday when they host Tohono O'odham Community College at the West Campus. Game starts at 7:30 p.m.
