James posts double-double as Aztecs men's basketball trounce Scottsdale

The Pima Community College men's basketball team (11-3, 5-1 in ACCAC) dominated the second half in its ACCAC conference game against Scottsdale Community College (6-8, 2-4) on Wednesday at the West Campus gym.

For the eighth time this season, the No. 15 ranked Aztecs scored over 100 points as they routed Scottsdale 108-83 for their sixth straight win. They outscored the Artichokes 62-44 in the second half.

The Aztecs went on a 22-9 run in the first eight minutes to take a 68-48 advantage and led by as much as 29 points in the second half.

The first half was a back-and-forth struggle with seven ties and 12 lead changes but the Aztecs went on a 14-5 run to take a 44-36 lead with 1:48 left. Pima held a 46-39 lead at the break.

Sophomore Deion James (Empire HS) posted another double-double as he finished with 31 points and 15 rebounds. He went 12 for 21 from the field and also had three blocks and two assists.

Sophomore Emilio Acedo (Salpointe Catholic HS) scored 16 of his 21 points in the first half and also finished with eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Freshman Isaiah Murphy (Cienega HS) had 16 points off the bench on 7 for 11 shooting while sophomore Damon Dubots posted 11 points on 4 for 4 shootings. He also had two blocks.

Freshman Ilunga Moise (Kellis HS) contributed with 10 points off the bench and was a perfect 5 for 5 from the field.

The Aztecs play on the road at Cochise College in Douglas on Saturday. The game will start at 7:30 p.m.
