Travis scores 14 second half points as Aztecs men's basketball halts Eastern Arizona College

The Pima Community College men's basketball team (7-1, 3-1 in ACCAC) picked up a big road win on Wednesday in Thatcher after a big second half from its starting point guard and three double-doubles.

The No. 10 ranked Aztecs (Division II) defeated Eastern Arizona College (Division I) 87-77 as sophomore Alize Travis scored all 14 of his points in the second half. Sophomores Keven Biggs (Cienega HS), Justin Bessard and freshman Robert Wilson (Salpointe Catholic HS) all had double-doubles in points and rebounds.

Up 46-40 early in the second half, Travis scored eight straight points for the Aztecs which included a three-pointer to put them back up by double digits at 54-44. The Aztecs went on a 9-1 run later in the half to take an 18-point lead at 67-49.

The Gila Monsters would get as close as nine points at 82-73 but Travis went 6 for 8 from the free throw line down the stretch to keep the rally at bay.

With 4:19 left in the first half, the Aztecs went on an 11-1 run that was capped off by a three-pointer from freshman Abram Carrasco (Cholla HS) to take a double digit lead at 44-29. The Aztecs led 44-34 at the break.

Biggs finished the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Bessard had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Wilson had eight rebounds in the first half and finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Carrasco scored 13 points while freshman Jeremiah Bailey contributed with eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Gymnasium on Saturday when they host South Mountain Community College at 4:00 p.m.
