Koehler, Carrasco and Wilson help lead Aztecs men's basketball passed Eastern Arizona

The Pima Community College men's basketball team (4-2, 1-1 in ACCAC) escaped with a victory on Wednesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

  • The No. 1 ranked Aztecs gave up a double digit lead but held on to down Eastern Arizona College 97-89 to even their conference record.
  • The Gila Monsters (7-2, 0-2) took advantage of Pima's turnovers and took their first lead of the game at 84-83 with 3:20 left. The Aztecs retook the lead on the next possession but sophomore Kennedy Koehler helped pad it with a three-pointer and a basket inside to make it 90-84 with under two minutes left.
  • Up 90-86 and coming out of a timeout, the Aztecs broke Eastern Arizona's press and sophomore Abram Carrasco (Cholla HS) scored on a layup with an assist from sophomore Davonte Eason (Tucson HS) with 22.6 seconds left. The Aztecs made four of their final five free throws to help seal it.
  • Koehler scored a game-high 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Carrasco scored 18 of his 23 points in the first half and finished 9 for 15 fro the field. Sophomore Robert Wilson (Salpointe Catholic HS) had a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds. He went 7 for 10 from the field.

The Aztecs will head to Yuma on Sunday to play Arizona Western College. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
