Tippins and Smith's double-doubles set tone as Aztecs men's basketball cruises in season opener

The Pima Community College men's basketball team (1-0) opened the 2019-20 season on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

  • The No. 4 ranked Aztecs earned a 37-point victory after defeating Christian Community College 114-77.
  • Sophomore Kaylon Tippins (Cholla HS) scored 21 points and grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds to go along with three blocks and three steals. Fellow sophomore Rashad Smith (Hamilton HS) also finished with 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
  • Freshman Jake Lieppert (Saguaro HS) contributed with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists while sophomores Nick Rosquist (The Gregory School HS) and Khalil Curtis each had 14 points. Curtis also had five rebounds and five assists.
  • Sophomore Jordan Robinson (Tucson HS) posted five points and nine assists.

The Aztecs will host the Pima Community College Classic from Nov. 14-16 at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. The Aztecs will play Lee College (Division I) on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
