Aztecs men's basketball falls in second half to Howard College to close Pima Tip-Off Classic

The Pima Community College men's basketball team (2-2) closed out play in the Pima College Tip-Off Classic on Saturday.

  • The No. 4 ranked Aztecs fell to Howard College (Division I) 79-72. The Aztecs led 33-28 at halftime but were outscored 51-39 in the second half.
  • Sophomore Cole Gerken (Ironwood Ridge HS) drained six 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 19 points. Fellow sophomore Rashad Smith (Hamilton HS) added 16 points while sophomore Khalil Curtis finished with 15 points. Freshman Jake Lieppert (Saguaro HS) contributed with 14 points.

The Aztecs open ACCAC conference play on Wednesday when travel to Cochise College in Douglas. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
