Banegas Secures Hat trick as Men's Soccer Opens Season with a Rout

The Pima Community College men's soccer team (1-0, 1-0 in ACCAC) opened the 2016 season with an offensive onslaught.

The No. 5 ranked Aztecs defeated Paradise Valley Community College (0-1, 0-1) 9-0 at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex on Tuesday in Phoenix. Pima led 8-0 after the first half.

Sophomore Hector Banegas (Rincon HS) scored a hat trick in the first half with goals in the 5th, 16th and 24th minutes. He also had the assist in fellow sophomore Juan Pablo Segura's (Nogales HS) goal in the 57th minute.

Freshmen Julian Gaona (Tucson Magnet HS) and Andrew Bianchi (Salpointe Catholic HS) each contributed with two goals. Gaona also had two assists.

Sophomore Taylor Anderson (Salpointe Catholic HS) played the first half and had one save. Fellow sophomore keeper James McWilliams (Sahuaro HS) played the second half and finished with four saves.

The Aztecs will host their home opener on Saturday at the Kino North Stadium against South Mountain Community College. The game begins at 4:30 p.m.
