Aztecs men's soccer net four unanswered goals in second half to beat GateWay

The Pima Community College men's soccer team (4-1-1) found itself in a back and forth battle in the first half with GateWay Community College (0-5) but took firm control in the second half.

The No. 15 ranked Aztecs broke a 2-2 tie with four unanswered goals in the second half to beat the Geckos 6-2.

Freshman Daisuke Takanaka broke the tie for good with a penalty shot in the 67th minute. Sophomore Julian Gaona scored two straight goals in the 70th and 74th minute to make it 5-2. Sophomore Chris Cooper (University HS) and freshman Hugo Kametani had the assists. Sophomore Armand Bram (Marana HS) sealed it with his goal in the 82nd minute.

The Aztecs struck first when freshman Luis Gonzalez (Amphitheater HS) put in a goal in the 3rd minute with an assist from Tatsuma Yuki. The Geckos tied it in the 5th minute. Freshman Giovanni Ahumada (Tucson HS) put the Aztecs ahead at 2-1 with his goal in the 31st minute with an assist from Takanaka. The Geckos tied it again just before the half in the 42nd minute.

The Aztecs out-shot the Geckos 16-5 for the game. Freshman goalkeeper David Silva had three saves.

The Aztecs will hit the road again on Saturday when they play at Chandler-Gilbert Community College at 7:00 p.m.
