Gaona scores two goals as Aztecs men's soccer continue to roll

The Pima Community College men's soccer team (11-1-3) continued its winning ways on Thursday at Scottsdale Community College (5-9).

The No. 7 ranked Aztecs scored four unanswered goals to beat the Artichokes 4-1. The Aztecs are 9-0-2 in their last 11 games.

The Aztecs swept the regular season series against Scottsdale as they won 2-1 last month at Kino North Stadium.

Down 1-0 for much of the first half, the Aztecs got on the board when sophomore Julian Gaona (Tucson HS) scored in the 41st minute to tie it at 1-1.

Gaona came right out of the gate in the second half and scored his second goal in the 46th minute to put the Aztecs up for good.

Freshman Ricky Flores (Desert View HS) added to the lead with his goal in the 74th minute. Fellow freshman Daisuke Takanaka helped seal it with his goal in the 77th minute.

The Aztecs outshot the Artichokes 13-2 for the game. Freshman goalkeeper David Silva finished with one save.

The Aztecs will be back at Kino North Stadium on Saturday when they host GateWay Community College at 7:00 p.m.
