Kametani's goal proves enough to send Aztecs men's soccer to NJCAA Tournament Final

The Pima Community College men's soccer team (25-2) will play in its first NJCAA Division I National Championship game since 1999.

  • Sophomore Hugo Kametani scored on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute as the No. 1 seeded Aztecs defeated No. 7 Monroe College (12-2-2) 1-0 to advance. Freshman Ricky Gordillo (Maya HS) was fouled just inside the box to force the penalty kick opportunity.
  • The Aztecs and the Mustangs played to a scoreless first half. Both teams finished with four shots but the Mustangs seemed to control the field and the pace of the game.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Nils Roth finished the game with six saves and made a key stopped with under a minute left.
  •  The win marked the Aztecs' 17th shutout victory of the season.

The Aztecs play No. 3 Barton Community College (21-1-2) in the Championship game at 3:00 p.m. (ET); 1:00 p.m. (MST).

Pima goal: Hugo Kametani (penalty kick) 72nd minute.
