Aztecs men's tennis fall at Paradise Valley to end regular season

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (2-6, 0-6 in ACCAC) closed out the regular season on Tuesday at Paradise Valley Community College.

The Aztecs fell 8-1 as three matches went into a third-set tie breaker.

Francisco Ton (Nogales HS) won his match at No. 3 singles as he rallied to defeat Eric Mateer 4-6, 6-3, 10-6. Ton went 6-2 overall in No. 3 singles play this season.

Mathieu Lancaster (Marana HS) dropped a tough match at No. 2 singles falling to Zac Hackerott 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 while Aldo Amaya (San Luis HS) lost a close match at No. 6 singles to Talon Walz 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.

In other singles matches, Richie Foitik (Santa Rita HS) dropped a close second set as he lost to Evan Gazic 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 1 singles. Josh Henkel (Canyon del Oro HS) fell against Cody Kacerek at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-1 and Juan Bravo (Nogales HS) lost to Jean Perez 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.

In doubles competition, Foitik and Ton dropped a close match at No 1 doubles to Gazic and Hackerott 8-6. Lancaster and Bravo lost their No. 2 doubles match to Mateer and Kacerek 8-3. At No. 3 doubles, Henkel and Aaron Vazquez (Nogales HS) lost to Perez and Walz 8-5.

The Aztecs will compete in the Region I Tournament next Tuesday and Wednesday, Apr. 21-22 at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale.
