Reisig advances to singles quarterfinal round at NJCAA Championship

The Pima Community College men's tennis team closed out the second day of competition at the NJCAA National Championship on Tuesday at the Collin County Tennis Facilities in Plano, TX.

The Aztecs sit in 16th place out of 26 teams with a score of seven points.

Sophomore Dalton Reisig advanced to the quarterfinal round at No. 3 singles after he defeated Donny Camp from Wallace State Community College (AL) 6-0, 6-4 in the round of 16. He will play No. 1 seeded Enrique Pardo from Tyler Junior College on Wednesday.

Reisig along with No. 2 doubles partner Francisco Sotelo (Cholla HS) moved on to the quarterfinal round of the No. 2 doubles consolation bracket. The duo beat Pedro Ferretti and Adrian Savic from Lewis & Clark Community College (IL) 6-0, 6-1. Reisig and Sotelo will play Samson George and Christian Levengco from Oakton Community College (IL) in tomorrow's round.

The No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Marc Avalos (Sunnyside HS) and Francisco Ton (Nogales HS) played a pair of tough matches. In the second round of the consolation bracket, they won the first set but dropped the tie-breaker in the end to Daniel Diaz and Ian Millan from Prarie State College (IL) 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. They fell to Sebastian Osorio and Juan Pinilla from Copiah-Lincoln Community College (MS) 6-3, 6-3 in their first match of the day.

Ton dropped his match in the second round of the consolation bracket at No. 2 singles to No. 3 seeded Martin Mendoza from ASA College-Miami 6-2, 6-0. Avalos received a bye to the No. 1 singles consolation quarterfinals. He will play David Demoll from the College of DuPage (IL).

Sophomore Raj Singh Kaila (Yuma HS) was shutout in his second round match at No. 6 singles against No. 1 seeded Eric Ahren Moonga from ASA College-Miami 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Jesus Lopez (Canyon del Oro HS) also fell in his match at No. 5 singles to Noah James from Meridian Community College (MS) 6-3, 6-4.

Lopez and Singh Kaila lost their round of 16 match at No. 3 doubles to No. 5 seeded Christian Borrero and Lucas Freitas from Cowley College (KS) 6-1, 6-1.

The third day of the NJCAA Championship is tomorrow in Plano, TX.
