Avalos, Sotelo and Reisig advance to consolation semifinals at NJCAA Championship

The Pima Community College men's tennis team completed the third day of competition at the NJCAA National Championship on Wednesday.

The Aztecs sit in 15th place with a total of 10 points.

Sophomore Dalton Reisig (Catalina Foothills HS) fell in his quarterfinals match at No. 3 singles to No. 1 seeded Enrique Pardo from Tyler Junior College (TX) 6-0, 6-1.

Sophomore Marc Avalos (Sunnyside HS) and freshman Francisco Sotelo (Cholla HS) moved on in their respected consolation brackets.

Avalos defeated David Demoll from the College of DuPage (IL) 6-1, 6-4 in a No. 1 singles consolation quarterfinal. He will play Andres Graterol from Jacksonville College (TX) in Thursday's semifinal.

Sotelo dominated in his No. 4 singles consolation quarterfinal as he upended Samson George from Oakton Community College (IL) 6-0, 6-1. Sotelo will play Terry Rush-Apis from Seminole State College (OK) in the semifinals.

Sophomore Jesus Lopez (Canyon del Oro HS) played a nearly two-hour match in the No. 5 singles consolation quarterfinal but fell to Pedro Ferretti from Lewis & Clark Community College (IL) 6-4, 7-5.

In doubles competition, Reisig and Sotelo defeated George and Christian Levengco from Oakton CC 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2 doubles consolation quarterfinal. Reisig and Sotelo will play Giovanni Fragalle and Kaio Massac from Barton Community College (KS) in Thursday's semifinal match.
