Aztecs men's tennis drop season opener to No. 9 Mesa CC

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (0-1, 0-1 in ACCAC) opened the regular season on Tuesday against No. 9 Mesa Community College. The Aztecs fell 8-1.

Sophomore Tomothy Ou earned the only win for the Aztecs as he beat Jorge Sala 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Ou and No. 1 doubles partner Francisco Sotelo (Cholla HS) fell to Gergo Rendek and Jeffery Martin 8-6. Sotelo, a sophomore, was blanked in his No. 2 singles match to Rendek 6-0, 6-0.

Freshman Scott Mantelman played a close second set in his match at No. 3 singles but fell to Ali Moin 6-2, 7-5. Freshman Jonathan Wu fell at No. 4 singles to Yohann Prinsen 6-1, 6-1. Mantelman and Wu lost in their No. 2 doubles match to Prinsen and Sala 8-3.

Freshman Chris McDaniels (Tanque Verde HS) fell in his No. 5 singles match to Lucas Severo 6-0, 6-1 while Beau Boyer (Cibola HS) dropped his match at No. 6 singles to Artur Etzberger 6-3, 6-1. McDaniels and Boyer lost at No. 3 doubles 8-1.

The Aztecs will play at Glendale Community College on Tuesday, Mar. 20 at 1:30 p.m.
