Aztecs men's tennis earn first win of the season, beat Paradise Valley CC

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (1-2) notched its first win of the season on Thursday at the West Campus Tennis Courts against Paradise Valley Community College. The Aztecs beat the Pumas 7-2.

The Aztecs took two of the three doubles match-ups. The No. 2 doubles team of sophomore Francisco Sotelo (Cholla HS) and freshman Chris McDaniels (Tanque Verde HS) earned a tie-breaker victory 9-8 (7-5). Sophomore Tomothy Ou and freshman Scott Mantelman won their No. 1 doubles match 8-2. Freshmen Jonathan Wu and Beau Boyer (Cibola HS) fell in their No. 3 doubles match 8-4.

Ou earned a shut out win 6-0, 6-0 in his No. 1 singles match. Sotelo won his No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-1 while Mantelman got passed his opponent at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-4.

McDaniels and Boyer dominated their second sets at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively. McDaniels won 6-3, 6-0 and Boyer earned his win at No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-0.

Wu fell in his No. 4 singles match 6-3, 6-1.

The Aztecs begin the second half of their season on Tuesday when they play at Mesa Community College at 1:30 p.m. The Aztecs fell to the Thunderbirds 8-1 last month at the West Campus Tennis Courts.
