Tristan Spalding sets two national qualifiers, Orion Barger and Brooke Peterson improve previous qualifiers

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams competed in the final day of the Willie Williams Classic on Saturday as the Aztecs set two new national qualifying times at the Roy P. Drachman Stadium.

  • Sophomore Tristan Spalding (Palo Verde HS) set a national qualifying time in the 400-meter race as he took ninth place with a time of 47.89 seconds. He fell just short of his career-best time of 47.83 in the event.
  • Spalding, along with freshman Broden Cahoon and sophomores Nathan Plant and Orion Barger (Canyon del Oro HS), took fifth place in the 4x400-meter relay and earned a national qualifying time at 3 minutes, 17.11 seconds.
  • Barger improved on his national qualifier in the 400-meter race as he took sixth place with a time of 47.50. He set his qualifier at 47.78 last week at the GCU Invitational.
  • In women's competition, freshman Brooke Peterson (Mingus HS) improved on her national qualifying mark in the Pole Vault. She placed fifth with a vault of 3.68 meters (12-feet, 0.75-inches). She set her original qualifier last week at the GCU Invitational with a mark of 3.67 meters (12-0.50).

The Aztecs will compete in the ACCAC Conference Championships on Saturday, April 1 at Glendale Community College.
