Critchlow's game-winning hit secures Aztecs softball win over Central Arizona

The Pima Community College softball team (11-7, 7-4 in ACCAC) were able to get one game in before the weather moved in on Saturday at the West Campus. The Aztecs rallied after trailing by five runs.

Sophomore Bailey Critchlow hit a game-winning RBI single to score freshman Edith Prieto (Sunnyside HS) as the No. 18 ranked Aztecs handed Central Arizona College (11-3, 8-1) its first ACCAC conference loss. Pima scored six unanswered runs to win 6-5 in eight innings.

Down 5-3 in the seventh inning, Brown drew a walk to lead off the inning and Critchlow reach on an error. With one out, freshman Megan Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) stepped up and tied the game with a two-run RBI double.

Prieto hit a two-run RBI double to score Flores and sophomore Gabriela Trejo (Desert View HS) to close the gap to 5-3 in the sixth inning.

Pima got on the board in the fifth inning when sophomore Courtney Brown (Flowing Wells HS) hit an RBI single to plate sophomore Amy Pacheco (Sahuaro HS).

Flores finished 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Prieto went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Pacheco went 2 for 3 with a run scored and Critchlow was 1 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Critchlow also picked up the win on the mound (7-3) as she pitched a complete-game giving up five runs (four earned) on 10 hits with one strikeout and five walks.

The second game of the doubleheader was canceled due to the weather conditions and will be made up at a later date.

The Aztecs will host an ACCAC conference doubleheader against Eastern Arizona College on Tuesday at the West Campus. The games will be at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
