Aztecs softball goes 2-1 in the first day of the CSN Kickoff Classic

The Pima Community College softball team (2-1) opened the 2018 season on Friday playing three games as part of the College of Southern Nevada Kick-Off Classic.

The Aztecs were highlighted by freshman pitcher Paige Adair, who went 2-0 in her starts giving up just four hits with 27 strikeouts.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 3, College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles 2: The Aztecs scored their final run in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Adair (1-0) threw a complete game giving up two runs (two earned) on two hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks.

Sophomore Megan Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) finished 2 for 3 with an RBI while fellow sophomore MaryAlys Julian (Gila Ridge HS) was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

Game 2: Snow College Badgers 10, Pima CC Aztecs 5: The Badgers broke the game open with three runs in each the fifth and sixth innings. Freshman Alese Casper (0-1) took the loss after she pitched six innings giving up 10 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits with six strikeouts and four walks.

Julian went 2 for 3 with two RBIs while sophomore Edith Prieto (Sunnyside HS) was 1 for 3 with two runs scored. Casper finished 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Game 3: Pima CC Aztecs 4, Utah State University-Eastern Golden Eagles 1: The Aztecs broke open a 1-1 tie with three runs in the seventh inning. Adair threw another complete game (2-0) giving up one run (none earned) on two hits with 17 strikeouts and two walks.

Flores finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored while Prieto was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Freshman Jessica Lozania (Sahuarita HS) was 1 for 4 with an RBI. Adair also scored a run as she and Casper each finished 1 for 3.

The Aztecs will play two more games on Saturday in Henderson, NV. They'll face off against Salt Lake Community College at 10:30 a.m. and close it out against host College of Southern Nevada at 1:00 p.m.
