Talamante's 7 RBIs and Adair's 20 K's carry Aztecs softball to dominating sweep at Scottsdale CC

The Pima Community College softball team (14-6, 7-5 in ACCAC) flexed its muscles to score 22 runs on Saturday as it earned a sweep on Saturday at Scottsdale Community College (4-14, 3-13).

Sophomore Alyse Talamante, who went 4 for 6 with seven RBIs, led the Aztecs on offense. Freshman Paige Adair did her work on the mound as she earned two wins and had 20 strikeouts.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 11, Scottsdale CC Artichokes 0 (5 innings): The Aztecs scored 10 runs in the 1st inning to earn the mercy-rule victory.

Talamante and fellow sophomore Megan Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) each had two-run RBI singles in the inning. Sophomore MaryAlys Julian (Gila Ridge HS) had an RBI triple while sophomore Chandler Arviso (Cibola HS) and freshman Alese Casper hit back-to-back RBI singles. Casper and sophomore Edith Prieto (Sunnyside HS) each scored two runs in the inning.

Talamante hit an RBI single in the 3rd inning to score sophomore Sierra Gentry.

Talamante went 2 for 3 with three RBIs while Gentry finished 1 for 1 with two runs scored and three walks. Flores was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored and Prieto went 1 for 2 with two runs scored. Casper finished 1 for 1 with an RBI, two runs scored and two walks.

Adair picked up the win (12-1) as she threw all five innings giving up two hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks on 77 pitches.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 11, Scottsdale CC Artichokes 3: The Aztecs rallied in the 4th inning and took over with three runs in the 6th and six runs in the 7th inning.

Down 2-0 in the top of the 4th, Talamante came through again as she hit a two-run blast to score Gentry, who walked earlier in the inning.

Adair put the Aztecs ahead in the 6th inning when she hit a two-run RBI single to score freshman Mya Cabral (Pueblo HS) and pinch runner Vanessa Durarte (Pueblo HS). Freshman Mackenzie Judge (Ironwood Ridge HS) made it 5-2 with an RBI single to score Ariana Gomez (Sahuaro HS).

Talamante brought in another two runs in the 7th inning to finish 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Judge hit a two-run RBI double in the 7th and finished the game 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Adair was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and Cabral went 1 for 3 with two runs scored.

Adair picked up another win on the mound (13-1) as she threw a complete-game giving up three runs (one earned) on six hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Softball Field on Tuesday when they host Chandler-Gilbert Community College in an ACCAC doubleheader. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
