Pima Softball adds Armando Quiroz to 2022-23 coaching staff

The Pima Community College softball program added a familiar face to its coaching staff.

  • Armando Quiroz, who was the Pima softball head coach from 2007-2018, was added to the 2022-23 staff as an assistant coach. He will join his daughter, current head coach Rebekah Quiroz and fellow assistant coaches Jennifer Martinez-Abbs, Nicki Johnson (Pitching Coach), Jesus Lozania, John Herrera and Manny Gomez.
  • Armando Quiroz closed out his Pima head coaching career with a record of 501-197-2. His 2013 team took third place at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament and fourth place in 2012. The Aztecs claimed two NJCAA Region I, Division I titles and made the region tournament in 10 of his 11 years. He was inducted into the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
  • "Coaching side by side with a legend again will just strengthen an already strong family atmosphere. He brings knowledge, experience, and a winning expectation," Pima softball head coach Rebekah Quiroz said. "Although his name and reputation speak for itself, he is our biggest supporter and he is here to build off of the hard work Jen (Martinez-Abbs), Nicki (Johnson) and myself strive for every day we step between those lines. He's an exceptional tool we just added to our tool box.
"Having him back on the Pima Field was all about timing. He will contribute tremendously with our hitters, and alongside Jennifer Martinez, will add recruiting depth. I am very grateful to my current coaching staff that always supports these decisions and continue to have my back to do whatever it takes for our program to be successful. I am such a big fan of my father and so humbled to have this opportunity to be back on the field with him."
