Benefield sets Pima school record in pole vault at Puma Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams competed in the Puma Outdoor Invitational and came away with six outdoor national qualifiers.

Blair Benefield (Mohave HS) set a Pima school record in the pole vault as she finished in second place with a vault of 11-feet, 6-inches. Benefield's mark gave her an outdoor national qualifier and put her seventh in the country. Rhiannon Reece (Benson HS) took sixth in the event with a vault of 10-6 which also gave her an outdoor national qualifier. Kaysee Pilgrim (Goldwater HS) took first in the high jump with a outdoor national qualifying jump of 5-9¼.

In men's competition, Brian Schwichtenberg took third place in the 400-meter dash with an outdoor national qualifying time of 55.36. Amanuel Logo (Catalina HS) placed sixth in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 33:06.52 which gave him an outdoor national qualifying time. Cristian Gutierrez (Kingman HS) set his outdoor national qualifying mark in the hammer throw with a throw of 164-5.

The Aztecs will host the ACCAC Conference Meet #1 at the West Campus next Saturday. Competition begins at 9:30 a.m.
