Crandall and Chavez set indoor qualifiers at Aztec Indoor Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2018 indoor season on Saturday hosting the Aztec Indoor Invitational.

The Aztecs set two indoor national championship qualifiers.

Freshman Cameron Crandall (Canyon del Oro HS) took first place in the high jump and finished with a mark of 6-feet, 10.75-inches. He set the feat on his final attempt.

Sophomore Tony Chavez (Bisbee HS) set an indoor national qualifying mark in the pole vault as he took sixth with a vault of 14-feet, 7-inches.

Sophomore Seth Jarus (Wickenburg HS) finished first in the long jump with a mark of 22-5.75. Fellow sophomore Ben Anderson (Flagstaff HS) won the triple jump at 45-5.75.

Sophomore Collin Dylla (Ironwood Ridge HS) earned first place in the 1,000 meter race with a time of 2 minutes, 36.24 seconds.

In women's competition, sophomore Alyssa Watkins took first place in the weight throw with a mark of 45-feet, 5.25-inches.

The Aztecs will compete in the Paradise Valley CC Indoor Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Phoenix. Events will begin at 11:00 a.m. on both days.
