Chavez sets school record; Dylla set two qualifers at the Paradise Valley Indoor Meet

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field team competed at the Paradise Valley CC Indoor Invitational on Saturday in Phoenix and came away with a new school record and three more national qualifying marks.

Sophomore Tony Chavez (Bisbee HS) set a new Pima school record in the pole vault with a mark of 15-feet, 3-inches. He set the mark on his third attempt. He improved his national qualifying mark from 14-7 last week set at the Aztec Indoor Invitational.

Sophomore Collin Dylla (Ironwood Ridge HS) set national qualifying times in two events. He took second place in the one-mile run with a time of 4 minutes, 25.13 seconds. He also set a qualifier in the 800 meter race with a time of 1:57.35.

In other men's action, sophomore Ben Anderson (Flagstaff HS) took first place in the triple jump for the second straight week with a mark of 44-feet, 2.50-inches.

In women's completion, freshman Anahiramar Lopez (Tucson HS) set a national qualifying mark in the high jump at 5-feet, 5.25-inches. She set it on her first attempt.

In other women's action, freshman Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) took first place in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 19:28.45.

The Aztecs have five national qualifying marks after two weeks of competition.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus track on Saturday when they host the Jim Mielke Track & Field Indoor Invitational. Competition begins at 10:00 a.m.
