Pinckney sets new school record as Aztecs set five new national qualifiers at Jim Mielke Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams set five new national qualifying marks and one new school record on Saturday at the Jim Mielke Indoor Invitational.

Freshman Jala Pinckney (Walden Grove HS) set a new Pima school record in the 60 meter hurdles as she finished in second place with a time of 8.80 seconds while also earning a national qualifier. The old record was set last season by Rhiannon Bearup at 9.03.

Freshman Hailey Myles (Boulder Creek HS) took first place and earned a national qualifying mark in the triple jump with a 36-feet, 11-inch jump.

In other women's action, freshman Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) took first place in the 3,000 meter race with a time of 11 minutes, 06.41 seconds; falling four seconds short of a national qualifier.

In men's competition, sophomore Collin Dylla (Ironwood Ridge HS) earned two national qualifying times for the second straight week. He finished in second place along with sophomore Victor Bustamante (Flowing Wells HS), sophomore Gabe Atchley and freshman Adrian Watson (Cienega HS) in the distance medley. They earned a national qualifier with a time of 10:28.48.

Dylla set his fourth national qualifier in the 1,000 meter race after he took first place with a time of 2:31.41.

In other men's action, sophomore Ben Anderson (Flagstaff HS) took first place for the third straight week in the triple jump with a mark of 46-1.50. Freshman Cameron Crandall (Canyon del Oro HS) was first in the high jump at 6-8.75. Sophomore James Sather (Buena HS) set a new personal record in the weight throw at 44-9.50.

The Aztecs have 10 total national qualifying marks after three weeks of competition.

The Aztecs will compete in the Mesa Indoor Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Mesa. Competition begins on Friday at 1:00 p.m. with the multi-events and on Saturday starting at 9:15 a.m.
