Years at Pima: Coach Jones was hired to Pima for the 2019-2020 season, but the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. The upcoming 2020-2021 season will be her first official season with the Aztecs as an Assistant Coach.
Education: A Tucson native, coach Jones graduated high school from Santa Rita in 2012. She continued her education and athletic career at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, AZ. After graduating with an Associates in Arts, she transferred to Grand Canyon University (GCU), where she received her Bachelors Degree in Communication.
Coaching Experience: Coach Jones started coaching at Ironwood Ridge High School in 2019. She was an Assistant Coach for boys and girls. Her primary focus was on horizontal & vertical jumps, but occasionally, she would help coach other events-such as sprints, hurdles, and throws. After one season with the Nighthawks, she joined the Pima Aztecs as a volunteer. Following a cancelled indoor and outdoor season, she was officially hired on as the Assistant Jumps & Multi’s coach.
Playing Experience: Coach Jones was a track & field athlete for more than 8 years. Starting in high school, she initially joined track & field to stay in shape for basketball and volleyball. She competed in multiple events, ranging from the jumps, to mid-distance, hurdles, and even relays. Once becoming a collegiate athlete, she was initially recruited for High Jump & 100m Hurdles. It’s wasn’t until her sophomore year that she became a Pentathlete & Heptathlete, forcing her to learn new events such as Shot Put and the Javelin throw.
Career Highlights: In high school, coach Jones went to the AIA State Championship meet all four years, placing 3rd her senior year. At the collegiate level, she went to the NJCAA National Championships for the indoor and outdoor seasons of both her freshman and sophomore year. At the 2014 NJCAA Indoor National Championships, hosted at the New Balance Armory Track in New York, she placed 2nd in the High Jump (runner-up to Pima’s own Kaysee Pilgram), making her a 2014 NJCAA Indoor All American. While at GCU, she helped her team win the WAC Indoor Conference Championships her junior and senior seasons. She placed 9th in the Pentathlon at the 2016 WAC Championships, and 5th in the High Jump. The team also won the 2016 Outdoor Conference Championships. In total, she won 3 Academic All-Conference honors, and 1 All-WAC honor.
