Bribiescas dominates with 18 pts, 19 boards as Aztecs women's basketball downs Phoenix College

Pima Community College women's basketball team (13-3, 7-1 in ACCAC) bounced back in a big way on Wednesday at Phoenix College (9-7. 4-4).

The No. 3 ranked Aztecs used a pair of big runs in the first half to beat the Bears 76-45. The Aztecs six-game win streak was snapped by Cochise College last Saturday.

The Aztecs used a 13-0 run early in the game to take their first double digit lead at 18-7 but the Bears cut it back to single digits. The Aztecs led 23-18 and held the Bears scoreless for the final 6:49 in the second quarter. They went on a 15-0 run and led 38-18 at halftime.

Freshman Shauna Bribiescas (Dobson HS) crashed the boards all game as she finished with a team-high 18 points and 19 rebounds. She finished with seven on the offensive glass and was 4 for 7 from three-point range. She also had four steals.

Sophomore Christine Ortega (Flowing Wells HS) finished in double figures for the Aztecs with 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Aubre Fortner had eight points and seven rebounds while freshman Jacqulynn Nakai (Coconino HS) contributed with seven points, seven rebounds and six assists.

The Aztecs return to the West Campus Gym on Saturday when they host Central Arizona College at 2:00 p.m.
