Aztecs women's basketball stunned in 3rd quarter, fall at Central Arizona College

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (21-7, 15-5 in ACCAC) got overwhelmed in the third quarter on Wednesday at Central Arizona College (19-9, 15-5).

The No. 7 ranked Aztecs fell to the Vaqueras 106-82 after being outscored 36-17 in the third quarter. The Aztecs trailed 52-44 at halftime.

Freshman Jacqulynn Nakai, who was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week for the fourth time on Wednesday, scored 28 points. She went 9 for 9 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Alliyah Bryant (Mesquite HS) scored 15 points while fellow sophomore Izzy Spruit (Mesquite HS) scored 12 points. Sophomores Aubre Fortner and Christine Ortega (Flowing Wells HS) each scored 10 points.

The Aztecs split the head-to-head meetings with the Vaqueras. The Aztecs scored a come-from- behind victory last month at the West Campus winning 83-73.

The Aztecs return to the West Campus Gymnasium on Saturday for their final regular season home game. They will host No. 6 Mesa Community College at 2:00 p.m.

The Thunderbirds also lost on Wednesday but still hold a two-game lead over the Aztecs for the No. 1 spot in the ACCAC Division II standings with two regular season games left. The Aztecs have secured the No. 2 seed for the Region I, Division II tournament.
