Nakai named ACCAC Division II Player of the Year; Ortega and Spruit selected All-ACCAC and All-Region

The Arizona Community College Athletic conference released its awards for All-Conference and All-Region on Wednesday.

Freshman guard Jacqulynn Nakai (Coconino HS) was selected the ACCAC Division II Player of the Year. This is the third year in a row a Pima player was named conference player of the year. Sydni Stallworth (Palo Verde HS) took home the honor in 2016 and 2017.

Nakai was also selected first team All-ACCAC conference and first team All-Region I, Division II. She played and started in all 30 games during the regular season. She was second in the conference in points-per-game (17.6) and first in assists-per-game (6.7). She also averaged 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game. Nakai was selected ACCAC Division II Player of the Week four times this season.

Sophomore forward Christine Ortega (Flowing Wells HS) was named second team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, Division II. She played in 29 games; making 26 starts. She averaged 11.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. She had four double-doubles in points and rebounds on the season. She was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 8-14.

Sophomore guard Izzy Spruit (Mesquite HS) was selected third team All-ACCAC and second team All-Region I, Division II. She played and started in all 30 games as she averaged 11.2 points. She broke the Pima school record with nine 3-pointers on Tuesday in the final game of the regular season at Arizona Western College. She shot 37.4 percent from three-point range and also averaged 3.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

The Aztecs finished the regular season with a 16-6 record in ACCAC conference play and are 22-8 overall.

The No. 2 seeded Aztecs will host No. 3 Glendale Community College in the NJCAA Region I, Division II semifinals match-up on Tuesday at the West Campus Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
